Day +14

Things are looking up, way up. Chloe has had three days of increasing lab numbers (great, great news). If her numbers continue to increase, she might get to leave the room soon and ride around the hall in her stroller (wearing a mask!). She still has some difficulty breathing and her liver is enlarged, although her labs are looking better in that regard.

They tell us during this phase of the process, the mucousitis will improve so there is less direct pain, but as the white blood cells come back, she may feel achy and sore, like she has the flu. This describes her behavior exactly. She is awake for only short periods before tiring and just doesn’t want to be touched or jostled or moved much. She still has some vomiting as she gets rid of all the mucous in her system but she doesn’t seem to be nauseous overall. She requires some supplemental oxygen during the night to keep her breathing well.

Having her numbers come up this soon is highly unusual. So not exactly a surprise when considering that it’s Chloe! The doctors expected another week before this might happen, so while I’m still cautiously reserved, I am very pleased. As bad as things have been, many people here tell us that Chloe’s experience has been extremely mild compared to other kids, and for that we are very grateful.

We’ve got a bunch of photos to post, so hopefully I can get that done soon. I’ll let you know.
