Day 0

I know everyone has been waiting for an update on today. The internet access here is spotty and mostly I can't get into the page to update it.

Chloe did fine with the transplant process. She slept the entire time. It's just a simple blood transfusion in her IV of about 2 oz. It took about 15 minutes. We had the chaplain bless the cells and he stayed for the procedure, as did Chloe's doctors and nurses. We all just stood around and watched Chloe and the drip. Not very exciting. She was in a good mood today and got some good sleep (as did Mom & Dad).

We know a few things about the cord donor. The child was born 5 years ago on October 7th and is a girl. The donor family will not know that their cord has been used. While some might say they'd want newer cells, it's actually good to have older ones because then we know the child is still healthy.

Now we wait and manage any symptoms that occur. Chloe's blood counts will drop over the next few days and stay very low for awhile. No one knows how long - it could be days or weeks. She is handling this all very well and her doctor is pleased with how it's going. Dennis & I are tired but doing well and getting the hang of caring for her in this new environment and in new ways.
