Today, January 18th, is Day +100 for Chloe's transplant. This is an arbitrary, magical day which demarks the transition from short term to long term in the transplant world. Dennis tells me it's a "statistical horizon" after which the risks and complications drop off (kind of like the 12 weeks of pregnancy). They say if things are going well by Day +100 then chances are good that this trend will continue. I guess Chloe fits this profile as she has not had any major transplant issues since the VOD.
She continues to suffer vomiting, some diarrhea, and her newest/returning challenge - teething. She is currently cutting 6 teeth at once, causing her a great deal of discomfort and us a lot of stress and sleepless nights.
This past week Chloe had surgery to remove her existing chest central lines (her permanent IV) and insert a similar pair of lines in her arm. The chest ones were no longer giving us blood for testing and rather than attempt to poke her on a weekly (if not more frequent) basis, we opted to put in another line. This one should be short lived, not likely another 100 days. She did fantastic with the procedure, and I was so glad they opted for sedation rather than general anesthesia with intubation as has been the practice in the past. Just one more sign of her getting bigger, I suppose.
Since I had only partial success with the Caringbridge website during the transplant process, I'm trying a blog posting format instead. Hopefully it will prove a better way of communicating Chloe's progress.
Happy Day+100 Chloe!
